Doing Chemistry, Building Community: Current Challenges in Chemistry Education
Keywords:
chemistry education, professional community, experimental teaching, culture of care, scientific publishingAbstract
This editorial introduces the first issue of volume 32 of Educación en la Química and reflects on the construction of professional community as a central dimension of chemistry education. Community is understood not as a given starting point, but as a collective task sustained through shared practices, spaces for dialogue, and professional debate. Drawing on the experience of the XXI Meeting of Chemistry Educators, the text highlights the role of such encounters in strengthening teacher identity and collaborative work. It also addresses the place of experimental teaching and safety in educational contexts, advocating for a culture of care that moves beyond individual blame. The editorial presents the contributions included in this issue, reports on the journal’s internationalization efforts (including the incorporation of Portuguese) and announces the implementation of persistent ARK identifiers, which enhance quality standards, visibility, and long-term access to published articles.
