Abstract

When I thought about which element of the periodic table to choose, three that belong to the same group came to mind: copper, silver and gold. I began by discarding the Silver (argentum) because of its obvious reference to Argentina. The choice of gold represented a choice of strong family ties related to my father's profession as a jeweler. You will then wonder why I chose copper: fundamentally because of my current teaching activity. I work as a teacher of Electromagnetism for Chemists and one of the elements that we use the most in our laboratory exercises is copper. I remember that, during my chemistry studies, I did several practices that involved this metal. One of them, the realization of a winding for a small electric generator.
